The Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University and University of North Korean Studies were selected as the lead organizations for the 'Academic Exchange Support Program for North Korean and Unification Studies’ by the Ministry of Unification.

With the increasing importance of public diplomacy for peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula, the project, which was launched for the first time this year, consists of scholarship support and long-term fellowship programs for North Korean and unification studies.

The scholarship for North Korean and Unification Studies will be provided for up to three years to applicants who apply for a doctoral course in North Korean studies offered by the University of North Korean Studies. The North Korean and Unification Studies fellowship will provide a series of research programs for up-and-coming researchers interested in Korean Peninsula issues, including special lectures by top North Korean experts and policymakers, field workshops, and seminars. Fellowships are awarded for about six months to one year.

Through this project, the MOU and Kyungnam University will continue to foster overseas researchers with a greater understanding of peace and Korean unification issues from a Korean Peninsula perspective, and create a favorable international environment for peace and unification between South and North Korea.

Application Period is April 1 - May 20, 2020 (Korean Standard Time)
